Resolved Question: How should I construct my foundation?

I live a little northwest of Wasilla, Alaska and I'm building an extension from my basement to move my boiler (furnace) into and provide a convenient entrance to my basement. The present entrance faces north and provides an invitation to the cold north wind when opened in the winter. So this room will provide a new home for my boiler, block the cold north wind, and contain a shower, sink, toilet, and dressing area.
